Can Not Open Reason Engine

Reason 5 Quits Unexpectedly Mac

Reason 5 always quits unexpectedly when i start it. There is absolutely no startup at all, it just shows the error as soon as it is clicked on. Does anyone have a fix for this. I'm running El Capitan on a MacBook Air 2012.

Since Version 9 is current, I can't imagine it's still compatible.

I'm not sure cause i managed to get a trial version of Reason 4 to start up on El Capitan. Kinda weird

Exclamation

Reason 5 works perfectly on Mac OS X El Capitan, I run it myself daily! Impossible to crash, impossible to run out of cpu... (It doesn't sound as the latest u-he plug ins either, but it works for my older projects with a more vintage digital feel... )

OP, check your permissions and check if the drivers to your soundcard maybe are acting weird?

That's impressive.

Is Version 5 a 64 Bit application? I thought 32 Bit support was discontinued?

Reason 5 is just 32 Bit as far as I know. I also run Ableton Live 9.6 32 Bit so there is support for this in El Cap I guess since it works perfectly.

Has anyone come across an official reason for Reason 5's inability to run on El Capitan? I'm running 10.11.6 and get the error Can Not Start Reason Engine.

Well, I don't know. What does your system logs say? Have you got the mac os "gatekeeper"-feature turned on? (probably not, you would get a message about it then)

I just know that Reason 5 works perfectly on my 10.11.6 and on several machines too. I also know that I have never done a "clean install" since like "forever" - so there is some quite old stuff in my system folder. Maybe there is some useful stuff from 10.6-10.9 (I never installed 10.10) that gets flushed away if you have done a clean install of 10.11?

I've never done a clean install either. My Mac Pro shipped with 10.8.5 and it's been updates only, same with my iMacs.

My Reason 5 problem started when I moved it and other large apps from the Applications folder to another folder on another drive. But Photoshop, Premiere and Final Cut Pro X all made that move and work fine.

The exact error message reads:
Can not open Reason engine.
Please reinstall to make sure that the Reason engine is properly installed.

Last night I bookmarked an article that may offer a solution. It says the error I'm receiving is a permissions issue related to a security change in El Capitan called SIP (?). FYI.

True confession: I don't know how to check my system logs. Yes, I can look it up and I will. But if you reply to this, would you mind telling me how to check system logs for a particular application or error?

Thanks for your reply.
